Creative Commons License

Hello everyone!

I have just made a little change in the blog. I have licensed it with a Creative Commons Licence. As you can see on the footage, this license allows everyone to use and share everything I post.

There are just two limits:

The first limit is all materials posted can be share or use alike, which means you are not allow to modify it.

I have decided to add this limit because everything I have posted, they are materials created on my own. This blog is addressed to share and develop our CLIL knowledge. For this reason and purpose, I do not think it is necessary to modify them.

Moreover, there is another basic limitation: everything shared in this blog cannot be used with any commercial purpose. It is evidence that education is not a business and our goal is learn and help others to learn. We could accomplish this aim by teaching but also sharing, reflecting and debating. That is the meaning of this blog title.

Regarding license our publications, it is really important to make our students aware about the value of using a license as Creative Common License offers. Licenses establish an implicit arrangement between the viewer and the author of the materials. This commitment makes the use of materials easier.

To be respectful with others creation is an essential principle. Everyone wants their creations to be valued. This is another goal of licensing our creations.

In addition, we should make our students understand not every material on the net is free to use. Students usually take any picture or diagram from the net and use them on their essays or presentations without any consideration to the laws attached to them. They must be aware about this matter and one of the best ways is to make them license their creations.

Learning by Twittering

Hello everyone!

My experience with Twitter is quite sort. I have just created my account a few days ago and I thought Twitter was a social network mainly related to news, journalist and politicians. However, I have discovered how many opportunities twitter offers regarding to education.

Twitter allows you to follow other teachers, colleagues and also educational profiles that lets you be updated in this field. Moreover, it is an incredible tool in order to improve your knowledge about CLIL and share and resolve any doubt about it.

Here is one of my twits related to CLIL. It is my definition of CLIL:

My PLE and PNL for CLIL

Hello again!

Last year I did a master in Secondary Education at The Autonomous University of Madrid. This master was focus on teaching History, Arts and Geography in secondary education but it had an important lack in its curriculum: strategies and methodologies to teach these subjects. For this reason, I decided to start a new master, based on a specific methodology: CLIL.

When I started the master in bilingual primary education, I had not heard about CLIL at all. Only a friend of mine told me about this methodology and approaches to teaching content though a second language. It has been in this master, I am currently doing, where I have started to learn about CLIL. I am quite very interested in learning more about CLIL so that I am studying to take the TKT exam of Cambridge and try to keep update using twitter and reading different scientific essays of authors like Marsh or Do Coyle amongst others.

In order to show the different ways I know and use to learn more about CLIL I have create a PLE and PLN diagram. After I had clearly defined which were the different tools and ways to find and share knowledge, I looked for a digital resource to build my diagram. There are on the net many different tools that allow you design a diagram for free but, thinking about Google usually offers easy ways to work, I decided to choose Coggle.

Coggle is a really easy tool to create colorful diagrams. You have just to think about different topics you want to make a relation between and start to create different color branches, linking them and also introducing different images to make your diagram more understandable. On top of that, on his free version Coggle offers eight different colors for the branches which it is enough. However, it seems to be worth trying pay for the complete version that gives you a total twenty colors that would enrich this tool quite a bit. In addition, Coggle is easy to interact with. You can handle with all the different options using the mouse in an instinctive way.

Turning now to my diagram, as you can see I have a quite big PLE in comparison with my PLN. I have started to develop my PLE when I start my degree. In the university I started to find different digital platforms in order to search for essays, books and different scientific publications. Those platforms are Dialnet and Rebiun and I have used them to find essays related to CLIL.  Also, to look for information I usually use Wikipedia, if I want to check for specific and easy pieces of information like dates, names and facts. Furthermore I use google, Moodle and twitter. Especially I use Moodle in the master.

Basically, in order to communicate I use phone apps like WhatsApp, LINE or social networks like Facebook and skype. I would like to point out that skype it’s a quite useful tool to work in groups if you combine it with Google Docs, for example.

Apart from Google Docs, I use to create my writing works tools like Microsoft Office, Pixton and Paint. Microsoft Office is the one I use most.

To organize all these documents, I use two basic tools: Dropbox and Google Drive. I use both of them not only to organize my documents but share with friends and colleagues all the information I found and it’s interesting for us, mainly regarding with teaching. To organize other kind of information like films, documentaries or TV series, I use

Finally, my PLE is complete with two different means of surf the net: Google Chrome and Firefox.
As you can observe in my diagram, I have a small PLN that I expect to expand with the training in ICT I am receiving in the master of Bilingual Primary Education. In fact, before starting this master I have just used Facebook and slightly YouTube. Now, I have created my own twitter account.

Here is my coggle mindmap:

3,2,1…Introduction. A little bit about me!

Hello everyone!

First time I thought what would be the best way to introduce myself through a digital resource, to create a video came to my mind quickly. However, I thought it twice. I started to think about my possible students and I look for something different. I discard tools as Powtoon for this reason and finally, I came across with the tool that fitted on my demand.

Pixton is a digital tool based on creating a comic. I thought that create a comic could be a visual and effective weapon to introduce myself in a different way. We watch videos everyday but we do not usually read comics. This is the main reason for my decision. I think using a comic would impact in the students much better. Think about it, a colorful comic, with a personalized character and many different elements to decorate your vignette.

Even using the free version, Pixton gives you many options in order to create a detailed comic. You have 44 different landscape topics and 16 landscapes per each topic. It is a quite big range of options. On top of that, Pixton offers you a wider range of options in order to create characters. You are able to design every different feature of the character including color of the eyes, hairstyle and skin color. You can select different cloths to wear and accessories like belts, ties and even a helmet.

For these reasons, Pixton lets you create different kind of situations that for a History teacher as me it seems to be really attractive. I could be a medieval knight or a soldier in the American Civil War. It is definitely the perfect tool.

Despite of the fact that Pixton has a wide range of options in order to make a comic, the free version has some limits. I would like to have a wider range of cloths or the possibility to create new landscapes on my own. Nevertheless, it is understandable a free version has these kinds of limitations.
